New strategy in office-furniture sales: He buys big, sells fast

The modest sign, the vast, empty parking lot and the sparse traffic on Romig Road in Akron belie the frenetic growth taking place at Regency Seating Inc.

The only clues are the frequent visits from trucks moving a steady stream of furniture in and out.

Even a visit to Regency's outlet at 2375 Romig Road can be misleading. This public face of the new business is mostly filled with products formerly on sale at the old Summerville's office furniture store. The outlet produces only a fragment of the sales at John "Skip" Summerville's new company.

Rather, the heart of Regency's operation is a warehouse at the back of the building. Regency buys office furniture at low cost from foreign factories and distributes it to dealers throughout the United States.
